The Story
In Remembrance & Friendship..........

tri-4-life is the realisation of a simple dream to make a none stop journey from the northern most point of the United Kingdom to the capital of the European community whilst spreading a message and reaching out a hand of friendship from Merseyside to all the cities, communities and individuals that we share this journey with.
A team of average everyday friends have been brought together by a vision, passion and enthusiasm through a common interest in the sport of triathlon. Keeping fit, raising funds and having fun with the many challenges and opportunities it has to offer. We are committed to the future of our region by being part of this special festival in taking a small part of our World in One City to all we meet on our journey.
A 958 Mile Cycle route from John'O'Groats to Land's End, linking all the major cities with promotional and awareness raising presentations. An official 23 Mile recorded Channel Swim attempt from Shakespeare's Cliff to Cap Gris Nez followe by a 150 Mile Run from Calais to the Capitol of Europe Brussels.
tri-4-life is about active participation
in a unique sporting event for the intrinsic values that it brings. It's about
getting actively involved in making a difference to your community, your family,
yourself and your life whilst raising much needed funds for those less fortunate
and able.
tri-4-life European Challenge 2006
Plans are now underway for the most exhilarating, exciting and fantastic triathlon fundraising event planned as part of our contribution to Liverpool Capital of Culture 2008. In a lead up to this celebration our event will take place in July 2006 to coincide with Liverpool Year of Performance.
Following our official launch on Granada Reports 19th February 2004. The aim of the challenge 'A MILLION REASONS TO TRI'. Each reason equating to a £1 donation to one of the nominated tri-4-life charities. It is hoped that the team will fundraise for as many good causes as possible before, during and after the event.

Phase one is a none-stop two team relay cycle journey from John O' Groats to Land's End, linking the six major cities of Newcastle Gateshead, Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol and Oxford, by passing through the many smaller urban and rural communities. It is proposed to visit by prior arrangement many of the communities en route to each of the above cities to present a participation based interactive road show promoting the benefits of our sport to young people, disabled people, school groups, ethnic minorities and the general public in bringing our interactive event to both urban and rural recreationally deprived areas involving many local community and club groups.
There are a number of qualified coaches, teachers and community leaders within our event team to encourage improvements in standards at all levels of participation whilst promoting an active healthy lifestyle and raising awareness of the benefits of participation in sport and recreation.
Accurate records of all participation activities will be kept for future feedback and analysis. This is a brand new one off event combining the participation in the event itself with increasing numbers of participants, within the sport whilst en route, by creating further awareness and fostering links through local clubs and groups.
As the framework for the event takes shape it is planned to involve as many groups and individuals as possible. Coordinated fundraising, presentations and participation will be a major focus for this project. We feel that with the support of the media network we can introduce it to, and appeal to the potential sponsor's willingness to support the event and thus significantly enhance the areas we can actively cover in terms of transport to the venues, participation equipment, the number of venues we can attend and the community groups we can include in the event.
SWIM - 23 Miles ![]()
The second phase is to complete an official recorded relay swim of the English Channel from Shakespeare's Cliff at Dover to Cap Gris Nez bridging our message across this natural divide on to the French mainland.
RUN - 150 Miles ![]()
The final phase is a non-stop relay run from Calais to the European Capital, Brussels. Here again reaching out a hand of friendship with our message to all the communities and individuals that we will share this journey with.
This event has the endorsement of the Liverpool Swimming Club, Merseytri Triathlon Club and the Channel Swimming Association. It is hoped to have full media coverage and to be filmed for possible future screening.
It is also our aim to film the progression from the official launch including a showcase of the charities involved, through the various prerequisite events, including Ironman Austria 2004 towards the realisation of our goal in Brussels in 2006. The final rewarding part being the presentation of the funds to the designated charities.
There are three phased aspects to this challenge.
1. 2004 - 2005 Raising sponsorship
and training to complete the event.
2. 2004 - 2006 Publicity & media to promote the event and its aims.
3. 2005 - 2006 Fundraising through various means for the Local, Regional,
National and International Charities.
